Overall a perfect weekend. If you want luxury you have to pay luxury prices. We thought The Grand was really good value for money. The room had a lot of patches that had been painted over, some of the wallpaper was coming off, scratched furniture and an old carpet but the bed was comfy and the room was plenty big enough for the two of us. The bar area was well maintained and the staircase is lovely. We really enjoyed the breakfast and the view out onto the bay from the restaurant is stunning but some of the chairs are starting to rip, bits of material coming off etc.
All in all we enjoyed our stay but might have been disappointed if we had paid full price. Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your positive comments during your recent visit to us and honest feedback we will use this to improve our product. Stayed the 8th to 10th Feb. Had booked a valentines break, cheap as chips.
We had room 5, great views and the premier dining was great. Yes the housekeeping in the rooms could have been better, a quick duster over the furniture and a quick wipe round the spa bath to remove the scum ring from previous use would have been good, but it took me two minutes to do this myself, considering the price we paid which included sea view, champagne, chocolates and premier dining for breakfast and evening meal i was not disappointed.
The guy on reception was amazing so pleasant and helpful I think his name was Dave, feel so rude for not remembering but I remember he was originally from Stoke on Trent. He is a great asset to the hotel and should be giving promotion, he was so nice to us and explained where everything in the hotel was located. We will definitely return for another visit. Told Anne the duty manager she had great staff which she did, on the whole a few slight improvements could be made, ie: housekeeping and more bar staff to help less queuing but on the whole my husband and I had a great weekend,. Thank you to all at The Grand Hotel Scarborough.
Are you thinking of a Christmas break away this year? Think again if you are considering the Grand Hotel, Scarborough. We looked forward all year to our break away as it is something we have always wanted to do. What we got was anything but. On arrival we received a plastic cup of mulled wine and a mince pie, in our room we found a small bowl of fruit and a small box of fudge. The Christmas decorations were practically none existent consisting of paper chains, a few decorations scattered here and there that looked like they had seen better days.
On Christmas day morning we were invited to the Cabaret room for a complimentary glass of bucks fizz and to meet father Christmas.
Pizza Slices (aka Pie-Cut Pizza) vs Pizza Squares (aka Chicago-Cut Pizza)
Then coming to the Christmas dinner itself. This was self service and because the queues were so long by the time you got your food it was cold and nothing to write home about. We thought that for the money we spent there would at least be a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner. The room we were in was dirty stains on carpet and dust in drawers and we had a three quarter mattress on a double bed base and the bedding was disgusting. The entertainment consisted of mostly bingo which started at seven and finished at 9.
It closed at bang on We were so disappointed that we left a day early and on leaving the girl on reception asked us why. When I tried to explain she contradicted everything we said until in the end I had to say that she did ask. We have complained to the Britannia itself and got a very curt response from their manager so we decided to let head office know of our complaint.
They didn't help. They just got back in touch with the manager of the Grand who has replied by saying there is nothing he can do, he has passed our complaint onto the necessary personnel and he will not reply to any more correspondence from us in other words he has passed the buck onto his staff.
This is my first hotel review but I feel so strongly about the way we were treated that I must warn others not to waste their time and money at this hotel. Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your comments during your recent visit to us and honest feedback. We will take your feedback on board to improve our hotel.
